PARK CITY, Utah -- Christopher Del Bosco and Kelsey Serwa, winners at the Winter X Games, helped Canada enjoy a big day at the world freestyle ski championships Friday. Ray Whitney Jersey . Del Bosco, of Sudbury, Ont., earned the top seed in qualifying and finished first in three of the four rounds he raced in to claim the mens ski cross title. Serwa, of Kelowna, B.C., helped make it a Canadian sweep after taking advantage of the top three seeds losing in earlier rounds, including Germanys Heidi Zacher -- who came in ranked No. 1 in the world -- to claim the womens title. China will not bow to US pressure to allow currency to rise, adviser says BEIJING - China will not repeat Japans mistake in the 1980s and let its exchange rate surge in response to foreign pressure, said an adviser of Chinas central bank on Sunday, firing back at increasing pressure from the United States over Chinas foreign exchange rate policy. Related readings: China: Pressure on yuan may backfire Attempts to force RMB appreciate bound to fail US experts: Yuan bashing not the solution Yuan appreciation will not help trade deficit China rejects US RMB exchange rate accusation Li Daokui, an economist and member of the monetary policy committee of the Peoples Bank of China, said the exchange rate is just one of the many tools that China could deploy to adjust the structure of its economy. The country may choose other means, such as boosting domestic consumption and increasing imports, to achieve a trade balance, he said. China will not go down the path that Japan did and give in to foreign pressure on the yuans exchange rate, Li said at an industry forum in Beijing. I think there is still a huge potential to boost Chinas domestic consumption, he added. Many Chinese officials and researchers are wary of the experiences of Japan, which bowed to pressure from the US in 1985 to sign the Plaza Accord that allowed the Japanese yen to rise sharply to reduce a bulging US trade deficit. But as money pooured into Japan to chase the yen higher, loose monetary policy inflated an asset price bubble that burst in the beginning of the 1990s, ushering in two decades of economic stagnation for Japan. Claude Giroux Jersey. Li said on Sunday that the economic circumstances in China today are very different from those in Japan in 1985. The biggest difference is that China has a huge domestic market, he said, noting that domestic consumption and the countrys urbanization can sustain Chinas GDP to grow more than 9 percent annually in the next 10 years. During the past few weeks, US lawmakers have been pressing for legislation that would require the US government to apply punitive sanctions against China and other countries with allegedly undervalued currencies. US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said last week in congressional testimony that the US will use every available tool to urge China to let its currency rise more quickly and blamed the slow pace of yuan appreciation for US trade deficit. However, China has largely reduced its trade surplus during the past few years, Li said. But what has the US done to reduce its trade deficit? Li said. The US should pay much more attention to its own problems. China vowed to make the yuans exchange rate more flexible on June 19, ending a two-year peg to the US dollar. Since then, the yuan has gained 1.5 percent. Earlier this month, China reported that its trade surplus shrank in August from July, as imports picked up. ' ' '
ORCHARD PARK, N. Dale Hunter Jersey .Y. -- Dave Wannstedt is taking over as the Buffalo Bills defensive co-ordinator. Coach Chan Gailey maintains his trust in quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. And surprise, surprise, Gailey hasnt entirely shut the door on bringing back receiver Stevie Johnson -- so long as he keeps in check his colourful and oft-questionable touchdown celebrations. Wasting little time, Gailey spent Monday charting an off-season course mixed with both change and continuity in a bid to turn around the Bills (6-10) after their seventh straight losing season. It was a year in which Buffalo got off to a surprising start before closing with a familiar thud by losing eight of its last nine, including a 49-21 loss at New England on Sunday. The first and most significant move had George Edwards being fired as defensive co-ordinator and replaced by Wannstedt. Its a promotion for Wannstedt after he spent this past year serving as assistant head coach/inside linebackers. "Were in a production business. Thats the bottom line. And we need to get better production," Gailey said. "It just got the point where we needed the change and so we made the change." The decision didnt come as a surprise after the defence struggled in its second season under Edwards. Though a rash of injuries played a role, the Bills were over-run giving up a franchise-worst 5,938 yards. Buffalo also allowed 434 points, the second most in team history. Wannstedt is a two-time NFL head coach -- in Chicago 1993-98 and Miami 2000-04 -- and has an extensive defensive background. He joined the Bills a year ago after spending the previous six seasons as head coach at the University of Pittsburgh. Theres plenty on the Bills to-do list after they missed the playoffs for a 12th straight season, the NFLs longest active drought. Buffalos offence has its question marks, too, the biggest involving Johnson, the Bills leading receiver the past two seasons. In completing the final year of his contract and unsure whether hell land a new deal with the Bills, Johnson further clouded his future after an excessive celebration penalty led Gailey to benching him for the final three quarters Sunday. Gailey had warned players of drawing such penalties and said he had no choice but to sit Johnson after the receiver was penalized 15 yards for pulling up his jersey to expose the words "Happy New Year" on his undershirt. It marked the second time this season -- and third time in two years -- Johnsons been flagged for a TD celebration. Despite acknowledging hes grown frustrated by Johnsons actions, Gailey said hed be open to have the player return under the condition the player stops incurring needless penalties. "To say it doesnt have an impact would be a lie. But you have to look at the whole body of work and not give a knee-jerk reaction," Gailey said of weighing Johnsons value. "I mean, you love what Stevie does on the field before he scores touchdowns, you know? So you just have to decide if he can and we can get that under control." Even if Gaileys OK with Johnson returning, theres still a question of whether the two sides can work out a contract after negotiations broke down in late November. Johnson finished with a team-leading 76 catches for 1,004 yards and seven touchdowns, and became the first Bills player to go over 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons. Fitzpatrick made clear where he stands on Johnson. "I want my best receiver back," Fitzpatrick said. "Im a better player with Stevie on my team. And I think hes a better player with me as his quarterback." Fitzpatrick could use all the help he can get after completing his first season as a full-time starter, and after he signed a six-year, US$59 million contract extension in October. Fitzpatricks production mirrored that of the Bills. After throwing 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions in his first seven games, Fitzpatrick had 10 touchdowns versus 16 interceptions in his final nine. That led to a dubious distinction in which Fitzpatricks 3,832 yards rank third on the Bills list, and his 23 interceptions are the most since Joe Ferguson threw 25 in 1983. "I think disappointment is probably the best word to describe it," Fitzpatrick said. "It was a very up-and-down 16 games obviously for me, but I think I learned a lot." Fitzpatrick already has the support of team owner Ralph Wilson who, two weeks ago told The Associated Press, that the quarterback needed better players around him. Gailey also continued to voice his support of Fitzpatrick on Monday. "I have a great deal of confidence in Ryan," Gailey said. General manager Buddy Nix intends to spend the week meeting with players, coaches and team owner Ralph Wilson, and would rather wait a week before providing a detailed assessment on what went wrong this season, and how he intends to fix it. When it came to sharing a general thought, Nix was surprised by the teams collapse. "I knew we werent quite as far along as everybody thought we were," Nix said. "Theres no excuse for losing seven games in a row. That was a complete downer and a complete surprise." The events reorganization Saturday by local organizers and the International Baseball Federation in conjunction with the participating teams came after a Hong Kong player was struck in the leg by a stray bullet during a game in Caracas on Friday. Play has been suspended since but its scheduled to resume Sunday once the six of the seven teams based in Caracas move over to Maracay. Andre Lachance, who heads Baseball Canadas womens program and manages the team, said Hong Kong is withdrawing to return home, leaving 10 clubs at the event. The injured player, Cheuk Woon Yee, left a hospital in the Fort Tiuna military base where she was treated for the wound, Venezuelas information ministry said in a statement. The Canadian team chose to stay after a series of meetings left them relatively confident they will be safe the rest of the way. Canada, which was to play Hong Kong on Saturday, is now scheduled to put its 2-0 mark on the line against host Venezuela on Sunday. "The players had their own meeting and then they came to us with their own decision to keep playing and give the local committee a second chance," Lachance said in a phone interview. "Were facing Venezuela so thats a concern but like I told the organizing committee, if I have any doubts about the level of comfort of our players in that game,, were going home. Zach Parise Jersey. " The bullet struck Cheuk as she was taking the field to play third base in the top of the fourth inning against the Netherlands on Friday, and was lodged in her left calf, Venezuelas information ministry said. The stadium was on the Fort Tiuna military base but Lachance said officials from all 10 teams were told that the bullet came from a gun someone fired randomly in the air. Officials said such bullets have a range of two kilometres. The Canadians first heard about the incident once they had returned to their hotel after a 7-6 comeback win over Taiwan. They immediately went into lockdown mode and contacted the local embassy, staying in their hotel since. Their preparations for the trip included contingency plans for kidnappings and natural disasters, but not a shooting, said Lachance. The move to Maracay was the only way to restore a feeling of safety for the Canadian players, and those from Australia, Taiwan, Cuba, the Netherlands and host Venezuela, who were also based in Caracas. The United States, defending champion Japan, Puerto Rico and South Korea were based in Maracay. "We left everything to the players because at the end of the day, theyre the ones who step on the field to play," said Lachance. "They didnt want to play at that field where the incident happened, they preferred to go to Maracay. "Other teams were saying the same thing, so all the teams are moving." -- With files from The Associated Press ' ' '
Wimbledon, England (Sports Network) - Top-ranked Dinara Safina, two-time defending champion Venus Williams and French Open titlist Svetlana Kuznetsova were among the second-round winners Thursday at Wimbledon. Scott Hartnell Jersey . The French Open and Australian Open runner-up Safina handled Paraguays Rossana de los Rios 6-3, 7-5 on another sunny day at the All England Club. Safina was upset by Kuznetsova in the French Open final three weeks ago and mauled by Serena Williams in the Aussie Open final back in January. The big- hitting Safina is still seeking that elusive first-ever major title, as shes reached three of the last five major finals, going 0-3. Up next for Safina will be Belgian Kirsten Flipkens. A third-seeded Venus, who has been to the final seven times on the famed grass here, was an easy 6-3, 6-2 winner over Ukraines Kateryna Bondarenko. The powerful American, playing with a wrap on her left knee, needed only 1 hour, 9 minutes to post the victory while losing just six total points on her serve. Asked about what was wrong with her knee, Venus said: "What happened was that I needed some support, and then I went and got the support, and then I wore it in the match. Ill be wearing it in doubles, too. So its working out. I mean, I think all the players might start wearing it because its so supportive." Venus is a seven-time major champ and seeking a third straight and sixth overall Wimbledon championship. She beat her younger sister Serena in last years third all-Williams finale here. The Wimbledon queen Venus will be opposed by Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro in the round of 32. A fifth-seeded two-time major champion Kuznetsova took only one hour to post a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Frances Pauline Parmentier, using four break-point conversions to do so, while sixth-seeded Serbian star Jelena Jankovic defeated Czech Iveta Benesova 6-2, 6-4. Jankovic was No. 1 in the world as recently as the early part of this year and last years U.S. Open runner-up to Serena. Kuznetsova will encounter big-serving German Sabine Lisicki in the third round, while Jankovic will take on American teenager Melanie Oudin. Last weeks Eastbourne champion, ninth-seeded Dane Caroline Wozniacki, dismissed Russian glamour girl Maria Kirilenko 6-0, 6-4, while 11th-seeded Pole Agnieszka Radwanska came from behind to beat Chinese Peng Shuai 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 9-7. Wozniacki is riding a seven-match grass-court winning streak. Former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic, seeded 13th at this fortnight, got past Italian Sara Errani 7-5, 6-1, while 15th-seeded Italian Flavia Pennetta pasted American Vania King 6-2, 6-2 and former Wimbledon champ Amelie Mauresmo doused Slovakian Kristina Kucova 6-3, 6-3. The 17th-seeded former No. 1 Mauresmo captured her Wimbledon title three years ago. In other second-round action involving seeds, No. 18 Aussie Samantha Stosur overcame German Tatjana Malek 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, No. 19 Chinese Li Na erased Belarusian Olga Govortsova 6-4, 6-2 and No. 20 Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues got past Italian Tathiana Garbin 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. Stosur was a surprise French Open semifinalist this month. Additional second-round wins came for Oudin, Lisicki, Suarez Navarro and Flipkens. The 17-year-old Oudin came back to beat Kazakhstans Yaroslava Shvedova 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. The third round will commence with eight matches here on Friday, including ones for a second-seeded Serena, Olympic gold medalist Elena Dementieva and rising Belarusian Victoria Azarenka. The two-time Wimbledon champion and 10-time major titlist Serena will face Italian Roberta Vinci, while a fourth-seeded Dementieva will meet Russian Regina Kulikova and an eighth-seeded Azarenka, who stunned Serena in this years lucrative final in Miami, will battle 28th-seeded Romanian Sorana Cirstea. The Day-5 schedule will also feature matches for seventh-seeded Russian Vera Zvonareva, 10th-seeded Russian Nadia Petrova and 12th-seeded Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli, the 2007 runner-up here to Venus. NEW ORLEANS -- Jerryd Bayless nailed a 15-foot jumper, the Clippers called timeout and Chris Paul sprinted off the bench to give Bayless a soaring shoulder bump. After a shaky first few outings with New Orleans, Bayless was suddenly taking over a game in the fourth quarter, much like the three-time all-star he backs up. Bayless had 15 points and nine assists, fellow reserve guard Willie Green scored 19 points, and the Hornets remained unbeaten with a 101-82 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night. "It was just, like, finally," said Bayless, a third-year pro acquired in a trade four days before the regular season opener. "I didnt have any doubts. I know what I can do and Ive done it before in the NBA. It was just frustrating, but it was a transition and I feel like these last few games were my training camp." Bayless, a former first-round pick, was shooting 29 per cent and averaging 2.2 points coming in. "You could see the frustration in his face at times because he knows how to play and sometimes its not going as well as hed like," Paul said. "So I was just happy to see him smiling and playing well, because were going to need that all season long." With Paul on the bench, Bayless and Green took over in the fourth quarter, combining to score the Hornets first 19 points to put New Orleans up 89-69. That kind of production from the reserves was precisely what rookie coach Monty Williams had been demanding. "Weve talked about how I shouldnt have to put Chris back in the game to save the day all the time," Williams said. Paul had 13 points and eight assists for New Orleans, which is off to a franchise-best 7-0 start. Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza each scored 12. Al-Farouq Aminu scored 20 for the Clippers, who played most of the game without starting centre Chris Kaman after he sprained his left ankle. Los Angeles was as close as 63-60 late in the third quarter and trailed by only five when Bayless and Green started making plays. After Green hit a jumper behind David Wests screen, Bayless set up Arizas three. Bayless then opened the fourth quarter with a jumper to cap a 9-0 run. Green had 15 points in the final period, surpassing 4,000 career points in the process. Bayless had 11 in the fourth. Their play allowed Paul to sit for the entire quarter after playing 28 minutes.Anze Kopitar Jersey. Together, Green and Bayless were 10 of 12 from the field in the final period and 5 of 5 from the free throw line for 26 points. Marco Belinelli had 11 points for the Hornets, who shot 50.6 per cent overall and 50 per cent (8 of 16) from three-point range. New Orleans also continued to play solid defence, creating 25 turnovers that led to 35 points. Paul and West each had three steals. "You cant expect to win at home or on the road when you have that many turnovers, so weve got to do a much better job of valuing the possession of the ball," Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said. "We fought back. ... We just couldnt put enough pressure on them offensively, and then we were trying to force some turnovers and they blew the game open." With Williams and lead assistant Mike Malone placing a premium on defensive play, the Hornets have held every opponent under 100 points. "Theyre a good defensive team," said Clippers swingman Rasual Butler, a former Hornet. "Chris and David West out there communicating and letting guys know what is going on." Ryan Gomes had 11 points for Los Angeles, while Blake Griffin and Butler each had 10. Aminu, a reserve forward who came into the game averaging 2.7 points, had 16 through three quarters, helping the Clippers claw back after theyd fallen down by 13 early in the second half. After Griffins three-point play on a reverse jam, Aminu added a fastbreak layup and three-pointer from the corner, then Griffin scored inside again during a 12-2 run that cut it to 63-60 late in the third quarter. Jason Smiths jumper ended the run and the Clippers momentum. Arizas third three helped New Orleans score the last seven points of the period. NOTES: The Hornets have beaten the Clippers 14 times in a row. ... Although the Hornets entered the game unbeaten, none of their previous victories had been by as many as 10 points. ... Clippers leading scorer Eric Gordon missed his first game since hurting his left shoulder against Utah on Saturday night. ... Los Angeles also was without G Randy Foye, who missed his sixth straight game with a sore left hamstring. ... Announced attendance was 12,479, meaning there were nearly 5,000 unsold seats. ' ' '
This is a transcript of the statement released Friday night by golfer Tiger Woods on his website. Nicklas Backstrom Jersey . It ran with the headline "Tiger Woods taking hiatus from golf." ------ I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children. I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage Ive done, but I want to do my best to try. I would like to ask everyone, including my fans, the good people at my foundation, business partners, the PGA Tour, and my fellow competitors, for their understanding. Whats most important now is that my family has the time, privacy, and safe haven we will need for personal healing. After much soul searching, I have decided to take an indefinite break from professional golf. I need to focus my attention on being a better husband, father, and person. Again, I ask for privacy for my family and I am especially grateful for all those who have offered compassion and concern during this difficult period. ------ On the web: http://web.tigerwoods.com/news/article/200912117801012/news/ Bernie Parent Jersey . Dallas Mavericks Dirk Nowitzki shoots against the Los Angeles Lakers during the first half of Game 4 of their second-round NBA playoff series on Sunday in Dallas. Ryan Callahan Jersey . The Mavericks won 122-86, sweeping the series. [PhotoAgencies] Dallas guns down Los Angeles with 122-86 blitz at home to advance to conference finals DALLAS - Phil Jackson walked off the court with a tight smile, shaking hands and accepting congratulations like he has after so many series-ending playoff games. Never like this, though. His team didnt win; it was crushed. Swept, too. And he wasnt just heading to the offseason - hes calling it a career, ending the most successful run by any coach in NBA history. Jason Terry and the Dallas Mavericks ended Jacksons tenure, and the Lakers reign as two-time champion, with a 122-86 victory on Sunday. After two tight finishes and another game that was relatively close, the Mavs turned this one into a rout in the second quarter. With Terry leading the way, Dallas hit a barrage of 3-pointers to go ahead by 24 points at halftime. When he made 3s on consecutive possessions early in the third quarter, Los Angeles knew it wasnt going to come back in this game or the series. Things got ugly early in the fourth quarter, with vicious, frustration-fueled cheap shots by Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum getting them ejected 45 seconds apart. But at games end, Dallas coaches, players and team owner Mark Cuban lined up to bid farewell to the Zen Master. Its been a wonderful run, Jackson said. The 65-year-old Jackson has retired before, but he insists its for good this time. While he goes out with the sour taste of his first sweep in 21 postseasons, and his second-widest margin of defeat, it cant override all the sweet days. A Hall of Famer since 2007, he leaves with a record 11 titles, and only 10 series losses. Take away Red Auerbach, who won nine championships, and Jackson won more titles than any two coaches combined. He won six championships with Michael Jordan, three with Kobe Bryant and Shaquille ONeal, and the last two with Bryant leading the way. He had to be talked into coming back this year. The lure of chasing a 12th title, bundled neatly as four three-peats, did it, but he knew it would be tough with a team worn down by three straight years of reaching the finals. (That) puts a lot of strain on the basketball club from all angles: personalities, spiritually, physically, emotionally, and getting charged up for game after game and assault after assault when you go in and play a team, Jackson said. It was a challenge bigger than we could beat this year. Four of Jacksons five childen flew to Dallas for this game, in case it was the end. On Saturday, Jackson called that a drag that I dont need, but by Sunday afternoon he was probably happy to have them around. They sat near the Lakers bench, wearing yellow hats with Roman numerals marking his 10th and 11th championships. Then there was his extended family - his coaches and players, especially Bryant. I grew up under him, Bryant said. The way I approach things, the way I think about things - not only basketball, life in general - comes from him. Its a little weird for me to think of what next year is going to be like. Assistant Brian Shaw, a former Lakers player, is considered a front-runner to take over. The bigger decisions for General Manager Mitch Kupchak will be how to surround Bryant. He may want a younger point guard than Derek Fisher, who turns 37 before next season, and he may consider breaking up his tandem of 7-footers, Bynum and Pau Gasol. We all know they always come back and get themselves back in the race, Jackson said. The Lakers are going to survive. For Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavs, clearing this hurdle sets them up for a chance to redeem themselves for flopping during the 2006 NBA finals and for flaming out in every postseason since. Thats why when this game ended, confetti didnt fall; the organizations bigger goal is reaching the finals and winning its first championship. Its halfway there, having won a franchise-record six straight playoff games, a streak that began right after it blew a 23-point lead in Game 4 of its first-round series against Portland. The job is not finished, Terry said. Dallas will host either Oklahoma City or Memphis in the conference finals. The Grizzlies lead the Thunder 2-1 going into Game 4 on Monday night. The next round likely wont start before next Sunday, a layoff that could pay huge dividends for a roster filled with players in their 30s. Then again, they might want to keep playing the way theyre going. Terry tied a playoff record with nine 3-pointers, and the club matched NBA postseason marks with 11 3s in the first half and 20 for the game. Dallas made 63 percent of its shots from behind the arc (20 of 32) and 60 percent of its field goals (44 of 73). "Its a frustrated group of players," said Cunneyworth, who had been promoted that morning when Martin was fired after too many similar losses at home, where Montreal is now 5-7-6 for the season. "They know its not enough. "They were up against a good team but I thought they were up for the task. I know it was a letdown in the end." Boos filled the Bell Centre as the game wound down on Cunneyworths first game as an NHL head coach. Elias passed John McLean as the Devils all-time goal-scoring leader with his 347th and 348th, while Peter Sykora also scored for New Jersey (18-13-1). Montreal (13-13-7) started the day in 11th place and fell further out of playoff position. Now they are relived to be heading out on a six-game road trip. "We wanted to start fresh and its the same story over again," said centre Lars Eller. "But there are still a lot of games left and we have to pull ourselves together and figure out a way to win." Cunneyworth made small adjustments from Martins routine, including placing more trust in a young centre like Eller and his linemates Louis Leblanc and Mathieu Darche. The team looked a little more adventurous on attack, while ice tme between the top three lines was more evenly distributed. Eller and defencemen P.K. Subban and Chris Campoli scored for the Canadiens. Campoli was also the goat on the game-winner, as he was stripped of the puck in the slot and Elias finished a give-and-go with Sykora 1:31 into the third period. Cunneyworth said it was not all Campolis fault. "We have to be better positionally," he said. "I dont think we gave him a good out, a good target. But we tell them to use the glass if they dont see anything." Sykora picked up the puck for Elias record goal. "It just feels nice," said career Devil Elias. "It feels like youre doing sommething right and it keeps me going. Marc Staal Jersey. Hopefully I have a lot more in me." Zubrus sealed the win with a power-play goal at 10:18. "Part of the reason for the changes was exactly what we did tonight," said defenceman Josh Gorges. "At some point we have to take ownership upon ourselves and understand its not good enough." He said it may help the team to be on the road over the holiday period. They have a winning record (8-6-1) away from home. "Its a chance to be together as a group and focus on hockey," he said. "And on the road, you dont have to be pretty. You can just win games. Weve done that a lot on the road and hopefully we can gain the confidence we need and apply it to home ice." The Devils were coming off an emotional 6-3 victory over Dallas on Friday night, when legendary defenceman Scott Niedermayers No. 27 jersey was retired. The Canadiens hoped to take advantage by jumping on the Devils early, but New Jersey had the first seven shots and got the opening goal when Zubrus shot went in off Sykora past a screened Carey Price. Montreal took three penalties in the first period, the last one a minor on Erik Cole for a hit to the head of rookie rearguard Adam Larsson, who was reaching forward for a puck behind his net when Coles shoulder contacted his helmet. Larsson was not hurt and stayed in the game, but it will likely be looked at by NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan. Montreal was on a two-man advantage when Subban scored on a point blast 2:21 into the second period. Tomas Kaberle picked up his fifth point in four games as a Canadien with an assist. Elias got it back when he sneaked in from behind the net to pound Ilya Kovalchuks pass into an open side on a power play at 5:05. Campoli got his first as a Canadien on a shot from the slot at 6:33 and Eller scored from the slot at 8:57, but Clarkson tied it at 18:26 after taking a perfect stretch pass from Larsson and beating Price with a wrist shot. Notes: Defenceman Raphael Diaz (sick) and forward Travis Moen (lower body) each sat out a second game for Montreal. . . Henrik Tallinder (back spasms) missed a second game for New Jersey, while Tim Sestito and Alexander Urbom were scratched. . . The NHLs two best penalty killing teams were in action, but New jersey gave up one and Montreal two on the power play. ' ' '
